Israeli military strikes overnight in the Gaza Strip claimed the lives of at least 30 Palestinians, with the majority killed in the Nuseirat refugee camp at the center of the enclave, medics reported on Friday.

Nineteen bodies were recovered in northern areas of Nuseirat, one of Gaza’s eight longstanding refugee camps. Tanks that had raided the area earlier have now partially withdrawn, although some remain active in the camp’s western sections. Emergency teams reported being unable to respond to residents’ distress calls in certain areas due to ongoing military activity.

Additional casualties were reported in the northern and southern areas of Gaza, according to medics. While there was no updated statement from the Israeli military on Friday, a statement from the day prior confirmed that operations targeting “terror sites” in Gaza were ongoing.

In a separate development, around 30 Palestinians detained during Israel’s offensive in Gaza were released and transported to a hospital in southern Gaza for medical checkups. Some of the freed detainees alleged ill-treatment and torture during their time in detention, claims that Israeli authorities have denied.

Efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza remain stalled, despite months of attempts to broker a resolution. Meanwhile, a ceasefire in the parallel conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, a Hamas ally, took effect on Wednesday, halting a sharp escalation in hostilities on that front.

According to Gaza officials, Israel’s campaign has killed nearly 44,200 people and displaced almost the entire population of the enclave at least once. Vast areas of Gaza are now in ruins.

The conflict originated 13 months ago when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israeli communities, killing approximately 1,200 people and capturing more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli reports.
