Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts Ibrahim Waheed has announced plans to develop another modern cinema during the current presidential term, addressing a key challenge the local film industry faces.

Speaking on the first anniversary of the government, Minister Waheed highlighted the shortage of adequate screening venues for filmmakers, noting that the current situation forces producers to wait in long queues for their films to be released.

He stated that the government is committed to resolving this challenge by establishing a modern cinema similar to the Olympus Theatre, which is expected to be completed within five years.

The Minister also revealed plans to allocate a budget of MVR 25 million next year to support artists and develop a modern art gallery to showcase artistic talent.

Additionally, the government aims to establish seven modern libraries across seven regions of the country, enhancing access to knowledge and learning opportunities.

Reflecting on the ministry’s achievements over the past year, Minister Waheed outlined several initiatives aimed at empowering youth and fostering cultural development, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to creating a thriving arts and education sector.
