Authorities are investigating threats made against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a rally organized by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

A police media official confirmed to *Russ Online* that the case is under investigation, following statements made during the rally.

“Police are looking into the matter,” the official stated without providing additional details.

During the rally, an opposition MDP member accused President Dr. Muizzu of undermining the Constitution and warned of consequences reminiscent of those faced by former President Mohamed Amin.

“Mohamed Amin played with tobacco; Dr. Muizzu is playing with the Constitution. The people of the Maldives saw what happened to Amin, and the same could happen if he continues down this path,” the member who spoke at the rally said, drawing parallels to historical events.

The MDP has announced plans for another rally on the 10th of this month, under the banner of defending the Constitution. The party has increasingly criticized Dr. Muizzu’s leadership and alleged constitutional violations, signaling escalating tensions in the political landscape.
