President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has vowed to enhance farming and local tourism opportunities for residents of AA. Thoddoo, emphasizing their contributions to economic development.
Speaking during a community meeting on Sunday morning, the President praised the island's productivity, particularly in agriculture and tourism, and pledged expanded support to boost these sectors and improve residents' livelihoods.
Highlighting the Council's efforts to establish a Local Authority company, President Muizzu shared his experiences managing a similar initiative as Malé City Mayor. He assured residents of his administration’s support for such initiatives, including financial assistance, underscoring his commitment to improving the lives of all Maldivians without political bias.
The President outlined key projects in the pipeline for Thoddoo, including a road development initiative set to begin in 2025, alongside water and sewerage projects prioritized in the upcoming budget. Education and healthcare upgrades are also planned, with the island school transitioning to single-session classes and A-Level education, and the health center expanding operations. Green tax revenues will support waste management improvements nationwide, he added.
To address financial service needs, the President pledged to install a US dollar ATM on the island, building on efforts to improve banking services across the Maldives.
During his visit, President Muizzu toured the Thoddoo Health Centre, engaging with staff to understand their challenges and needs. His visit forms part of a broader tour of North Ari Atoll and Kaafu Atoll to assess development priorities and strengthen government support for local communities.
