Hospitals in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed an agreement to offer Aasandha services, expanding the reach of the Maldives' national health insurance program.
Aasandha announced the agreement in a post on X today, naming the participating hospitals: World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Thailand and Burjeel Medical City Hospital in Abu Dhabi. However, no additional details about the agreement were disclosed, and Aasandha has not issued further comments.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu previously pledged to extend Aasandha services to countries offering high-quality healthcare. Earlier this year, the President identified Thailand and the UAE as priority locations for expanding the program.
Thailand has long been a popular destination for Maldivians seeking medical care, despite its relatively high hospital costs compared to other regional countries.
Aasandha services are already available in select hospitals in India and Sri Lanka, and this new agreement aims to provide Maldivians with more options for accessing medical treatment abroad.
