Independent MP Abdul Rahman, commonly known as Ahdhu, has called on the People's National Congress (PNC) to address public frustration through action rather than relying on street protests to gauge public sentiment.

Speaking in Parliament, Ahdhu emphasized that true representation of the people's voice comes through elections, not the number of participants in demonstrations.

Ahdhu highlighted that the size of street protests does not necessarily reflect the overall sentiment of the nation. He reminded PNC members of the lukewarm response to street protests organized by the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

“The truth is, public sentiment is not determined by the number of people taking to the streets,” Ahdhu said. He pointed out that the largest and most significant rally held during President Solih’s tenure was the "Hope Conference" organized by the PPM, which drew participants from across the country.

Ahdhu urged PNC members to focus on addressing the disappointment felt by the people, including traders and fishermen, instead of judging the government’s popularity based on street protests. He advised the government to work towards meaningful results in the remaining four years of its term to regain public trust.

“People are frustrated, and they need solutions. Most voices are heard through voting, not protests. Instead of playing defense, the government should deliver tangible results,” he said.

Ahdhu’s remarks came in the wake of a rally organized by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Malé to protest recent constitutional amendments made by Parliament. The event attracted participants from across the country and reflected growing discontent with the current administration.
