A devastating fire has severely damaged the Ministry of Housing, Land and Structural Development, resulting in the loss of crucial documents and data stored on the ministry’s server, according to Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed.

In an interview with state broadcaster PSM, Minister Haider confirmed that the server, which contained employee records and details of ongoing projects, could not be saved from the blaze. However, he assured the public that critical information, such as the flat allocation list and key project details, remain secure as they are stored on an internet-based cloud system.

To ensure continuity of operations, the ministry’s work has been temporarily shifted to Dharubaaruge. Minister Haider stated that relocation efforts are expected to be completed soon, with the ministry resuming services by Sunday.

The minister also revealed that attempts are underway to salvage the office server’s disk to recover any remaining information, though only a limited number of physical documents were saved from the fire.

The fire caused extensive damage not only to the Ministry of Housing but also to the Ministry of Building and Construction and the Ministry of Environment, further complicating recovery efforts. Authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing.
