Vice President His Excellency Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has concluded his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, where he participated in the 'Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation' (BEDC).
During his visit, Vice President Latheef delivered a statement at the opening ceremony of the forum, emphasizing the importance of blue economy cooperation for sustainable development in the Indian Ocean region. He also gave opening remarks at a group meeting between forum leaders and Chinese government dignitaries.
The Vice President held productive meetings with prominent Chinese officials, including His Excellency Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); His Excellency Luo Zhaohui, Chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA); and His Excellency Liu Xiaokai, Chairman of the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee.
During the closing ceremony of the forum, Vice President Latheef launched the Global Development Project Pool (GDPP) Information Management System. He also unveiled the plaque inaugurating the China-Indian Ocean Region Centre for Maritime Cooperation and Training, a key initiative aimed at enhancing regional maritime collaboration.
As part of the visit, the Vice President attended a banquet hosted by His Excellency Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC.
The Vice President’s participation in the forum was at the invitation of the Chinese government, marking his second visit to China. He previously attended the 2nd China-Indian Ocean Region Forum in December 2023.
