The Maldives has welcomed over 100,000 tourists in the first 17 days of December, marking a 2.9% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

A total of 103,560 tourists arrived in the Maldives from December 1 to December 17, surpassing the 100,652 visitors recorded during the same period in 2023. The ministry reports that an average of 6,092 tourists are arriving daily, an increase from the previous daily average of 5,000 earlier in the month.

So far this year, the Maldives has attracted 1.9 million tourists, an 8.8% growth compared to the 1.7 million visitors in 2023. The largest group of tourists came from China, with 259,222 visitors, followed by Russia with 214,271 and the UK with 170,000.

With just a few days remaining in the year, the Maldivian government aims to hit its target of 2 million tourists by December 31. To reach this goal, 58,805 more tourists are needed by the end of the year.

The Maldives’ tourism sector continues to show promising growth as the country works toward achieving its annual target.
