Former State Minister of Housing Akram Kamaluddin at the MDP press conference today
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has called for the resignation of Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed over his alleged involvement in a fraudulent land allocation case related to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

The issue emerged when it was revealed that Mohammed Fazeel Rasheed, the brother of HDC Managing Director Fazul Rasheed, had been linked to the allocation of land outside the approved Landlord Scheme. The HDC had submitted a request to the Housing Ministry for verification of the land registry, and in response, the Ministry confirmed that Fazeel Rasheed was not listed among the beneficiaries of the scheme.

Former State Minister of the Housing Ministry, Akram Kamaluddin, criticized both the HDC and the Ministry for failing to address the issue in a timely manner. He pointed out that the Ministry did not take appropriate action when the discrepancy was first identified in July. Akram further stressed that suspending only HDC MD Fazul Rasheed would not resolve the matter and that the Housing Ministry must be held accountable for its role in the incident.

Akram emphasized that the Housing Ministry has a significant role in the matter and called for Minister Dr. Ali Haidar’s resignation.

The scandal has sparked outrage, with calls for a thorough investigation into the actions of both the HDC and the Housing Ministry. The MDP continues to push for accountability and transparency in the matter.
