A Japanese Member of Parliament has passed away while on vacation in the Maldives.
The Maldives Police Service reported that Toshiyuki Adachi, a 70-year-old Japanese tourist, died while snorkeling at a resort in the province. The incident was reported to authorities at 8:33 a.m. yesterday.
Adachi, who had been serving as a member of parliament since 2016, was a key figure in Japan’s legislative assembly. He held the position of director for the Committee on Land and Transport as well as the Special Committee on Disasters.
The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into his death. Further details have yet to be disclosed.
