President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to initiate efforts within the year to address the space constraints at Kan’duhulhudhoo Island harbor. He made these remarks while addressing residents during his visit to several islands in Huvadhu Atoll on Wednesday.

Speaking at the island’s school, President Muizzu assured the community that the harbor expansion would align with the island council’s plans following consultations with the Government. He also promised to expedite stalled development projects at the school, resolve space constraints, and undertake new infrastructure improvements.

Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to the education and health sectors, the President pledged to enhance the Kan’duhulhudhoo Health Centre to provide round-the-clock services. He assured that practical efforts to address other challenges raised by the health centre would be initiated within the year.

Addressing concerns over emergency medical transport, the President stated that discussions with relevant authorities would be held to improve patient transfers to Malé via sea ambulances. These talks will commence upon his return to Malé after concluding his island tour.

Highlighting the importance of sports for youth development, President Muizzu pledged to upgrade the futsal stadium, renew the football pitch turf, and ensure the ground is suitable for athletics.

The President also underscored the Government’s focus on housing projects in 2025. However, he noted that additional housing units could only be constructed after land reclamation, which is unlikely to begin this year. He announced that the Government would allocate funds for reclamation in the 2026 budget, with construction of row houses set to commence the following year.

Concluding his address, President Muizzu prayed for Allah’s blessings in fulfilling the aspirations of the people and delivering on the Government’s commitments.
