The recent statistics of the Finance Ministry of the Maldives show that 252.5 million Rufiyaa has been paid as income support allowance.
Income support allowance is released for those whose income was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been rolled out to provide a safety-net to affected and displaced workers due to Covid-19. As per the Ministry, the Income support allowance will be paid out for eligible Maldivians who had their earnings affected due to Covid-19.
So far the state has paid 252.5 million Rufiyaa as income support allowance for 17,535 individuals.
Recently, the World Bank’s Board of Executive Director's approved additional financing of $21.6 million to expand the existing Covid-19 Emergency Income Support Project. The Project was supported by the World Bank in June 2020 with funding of $12.8 million.
The Government’s Covid-19 Income Support Allowance scheme provides temporary support of up to 5,000 Rufiyaa per month to workers whose income was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
