An archaic artillery believed to be historically used in the Maldives, was discovered during excavation work for a building on the north side of Chandhanee Magu in Malé. The artillery was found at the site of the former Habib Bank.
The artifact has been taken into custody by the Heritage Ministry for preservation and research. Heritage Minister Adam Naseer stated that historical records suggest a Maldivian king had acquired 14 such artillery, seven of which are currently preserved in the National Museum.
According to the minister, the artillery will undergo thorough cleaning and analysis to determine its historical significance. Once the restoration is complete, it will be available for public viewing.
The Heritage Ministry acted after reports emerged that the excavators had moved the gun to their site in Hulhumalé. Authorities ensured its retrieval to protect its historical value.
