The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) 'Haruge' was vandalized with black oil on Monday night, following protests over alleged fraudulent membership registrations involving members of the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC).

MDP supporters had earlier posted photos of PNC activists and senior officials on the iron gate of the party’s Haruge (or Office) in Chandhanee Magu. The move came in response to allegations that fake membership forms were used to recruit individuals into the PNC, including MDP MP for Vaikaradhoo, Hussain Ziyad.

The vandalism occurred late at night, with black oil smeared across the building’s exterior. The case is now under police investigation.

The PNC has acknowledged that fraudulent forms were submitted, but the extent of the issue and those responsible remain unclear. The incident has further escalated political tensions between the ruling party and the opposition.
