The Parliament has approved the appointment of Moomina as the Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
Following amendments made to the HRCM Act last year, the appointment of the commission’s president and vice president now requires parliamentary approval. The nomination of Moomina to the vacant position was first reviewed by the Parliament's Gender and Human Rights Committee, which endorsed her appointment.
In a subsequent vote held in Parliament, Moomina's appointment was approved with 67 votes in favor.
The HRCM is currently chaired by Mariam Muna, with the other commission members being Aiminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq, Samau Ahmed Najeeb, and Ismail Habeeb. With Moomina's approval, the commission now has a full five-member team to carry out its mandate.
