Parliament has approved four ministers re-appointed following last month’s cabinet reshuffle.

The Government Responsibility Committee had reviewed the appointments and endorsed them yesterday. During today’s parliamentary session, the House held separate votes for each minister.

Dr. Haider Ali, appointed as Minister of Higher Education, faced some opposition, with six members voting against his appointment. However, he secured approval with 63 votes in favor. The other three ministers were unanimously approved.

Significant changes in the reshuffle included renaming the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, with Moosa Zameer appointed as the Minister. Additionally, the Ministry of Higher Education was expanded to include labor and skills development, now renamed the Ministry of Higher Education, Labor, and Skills Development, and handed over to Dr. Haider Ali, a former housing minister.

Another notable appointment was Maryam Haleem as Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.

The reshuffle also saw the dissolution of the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development. Its functions were divided between the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, with Dr. Abdullah Muthalib appointed as its minister.
