President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has fulfilled his promise to bring banking services closer to the people by signing agreements to establish ATM services in An’golhitheemu and Rasgetheemu.
The agreements were signed today between the councils of An’golhitheemu and Rasgetheemu and the Bank of Maldives (BML) during separate ceremonies held on the respective islands. This initiative is part of the government’s broader project to install ATMs in all residential islands of the Maldives, a key pledge of President Dr. Muizzu.
The project, launched on November 7 last year, aims to enhance residents' accessibility to banking services. In the first phase, ATMs will be installed in 17 islands, with the work expected to be completed by March 17, 2025.
The second phase of the project will see the installation of 56 ATMs, while 30 more will be added in the final phase, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the country.
Currently, BML operates 150 ATMs in 90 islands, and this project will significantly expand their network to meet the needs of communities nationwide.
