Former MP Mohamed Waheed (Wadde) has criticized the government for what he claims is inefficient spending of state revenue, focusing primarily on Fushidhiggaru falhu and the purchase of drones.
In a statement addressing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Wadde alleged that all the revenue collected by the state during the past year was directed toward the dredging of Fushidhiggaru falhu and drones. He argued that these projects had not yielded tangible outcomes for citizens.
He remarked that even after two years, the Fushidhiggaru falhu (part of the Rasmale' project) remains unchanged, and the drones have yet to be operational, causing losses and hardships for the public. Wadde also expressed frustration over the state budget process, stating that while the Finance Minister presents optimistic projections every year, the actual revenue consistently falls short, and expenditures surpass the proposed amounts.
Wadde also highlighted delays in the Rasmale' project, which began on December 18, 2023. Initially assigned to Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMCC), the project only managed to dredge 29 hectares in eight months, a mere 2.5% of the target.
Following the poor progress, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) canceled CMCC’s contract and secured loans to reassign the project to India’s Mohan Mutha Exports (MME) and China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC). Despite these efforts, delays persist, raising concerns about the government’s project management and priorities.
Wadde concluded his remarks by emphasizing the need for more effective governance and better use of public funds to address the needs of the citizens.
