The Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed that legal action will be pursued once the investigation into the alleged fraudulent membership submissions for registration in a political party is concluded.
In a recent official letter sent to the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), the Prosecutor General's Office assured that once investigations into the PNC's alleged submission of fake forms are complete, necessary legal steps would be taken. The investigation is being conducted by the Maldives Police Service, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Election Commission. The authorities will submit their findings to the Prosecutor General’s Office once the inquiry is finished.
The response comes after a request from the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), which called on the Prosecutor General’s Office to order an investigation into the alleged illegal recruitment of members into the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC). The MDP has sought the involvement of the Maldives Police Service, Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Election Commission in the matter.
The Prosecutor General's Office also stated that it would closely monitor the investigation's progress to ensure that any relevant legal actions are promptly taken once the case is submitted.
