Indian authorities have arrested two men attempting to smuggle 12 kilograms of hashish oil to the Maldives.

According to the Times of India, four individuals were apprehended by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on January 23rd while attempting to transport the drugs via yacht.

The suspects include a 56-year-old yacht crew member, a 30-year-old Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) member, and two others aged 33 and 34, all hailing from Tuticorin, India.

The seized hashish oil has an estimated street value of INR 21 million (approximately MVR 4.8 million), according to the report.

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that it has requested additional details from Indian authorities regarding the case. The arrests come as part of heightened efforts to crack down on drug trafficking in the region.

Authorities in both India and the Maldives have reiterated their commitment to collaborating on combating cross-border drug smuggling.
