The Maldives has taken a significant step towards assessing the nation's well-being with the launch of its first-ever 'Happiness Index.' First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed, who inaugurated the initiative by unveiling its official logo, highlighted the importance of wealth, mental health, and spiritual harmony as essential elements of happiness.
Speaking at the launch event, the First Lady emphasized that happiness is inherent to every individual and can be reclaimed even during times of adversity. "The true fortress of happiness is a heart beamed with faith," she said, underscoring the Islamic perspective that true peace and happiness come through faith and acceptance of life’s blessings and challenges.
The Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works leads the initiative in partnership with the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), appointed as the research partner. The project represents the first structured effort to assess happiness in the Maldives by developing an official framework based on internationally recognized best practices.
During the event, individuals from various sectors, including senior citizens, students, widows, differently-abled persons, and youth, shared their perspectives on happiness. A special song dedicated to the 'Happiness Index' was also performed. This initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to promote well-being and establish a comprehensive happiness framework during his first year in office.
