MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has called for the resignation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, urging him to hand over power to Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef amid concerns over governance and the erosion of democratic rights in the Maldives.

Speaking to Maldivian media yesterday, Fayyaz accused the government of undermining democratic processes and depriving citizens of their fundamental rights. He alleged that parliamentary functions were being obstructed and that the Election Commission was being influenced. He emphasized his intention to protest against these actions.

Fayyaz stated that he was working through legal and systemic avenues to bring about change. However, he warned that if those efforts failed, he would explore measures to seek a change in government. He asserted that the country's situation was dire and that President Muizzu should step down, with Vice President Latheef taking over leadership responsibilities.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating living conditions, Fayyaz highlighted the growing risk of people facing hunger and taking to the streets in desperation. He underscored the urgent need for political stability and reforms to address the challenges facing the nation.
