Former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Reeko Moosa Manik has said the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) remains the strongest and most influential political voice in the country, expressing confidence that the party will secure a decisive victory in the upcoming local council elections.
Congratulating candidates who won the MDP primary, Moosa said there is no doubt the party has dominated political discourse over the past 90 days. He added that the MDP’s voice will continue to be heard strongly in the Maldivian political landscape in the future.
Moosa further predicted that the party would win an outright majority in the forthcoming local council elections.
Incumbent Mayor Adam Azim secured the MDP mayoral ticket in the primary held yesterday with a commanding victory, receiving 1,411 votes, or 57.9 percent. His rival Ali Azim received 962 votes, accounting for 39.5 percent of the total.
Local council and Women’s Development Committee elections are scheduled for April 4, with the MDP saying it is preparing vigorously for the polls.
