The Maldives has demonstrated its leadership in climate action with the launch of its Third Climate Action Plan, according to Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim.

Speaking at a workshop held to share details of the plan, the Minister emphasized its significance in shaping the nation's environmental future. He highlighted that the plan, developed over the past year, incorporates extensive consultations with various stakeholders and regional workshops aimed at identifying national and sub-national ambitions and targets.

Despite the Maldives having low global emission rates, Thoriq stated that the targets outlined in the Climate Action Plan are ambitious and forward-thinking. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation to help the Maldives adapt to climate change and achieve its sustainability goals.

The plan outlines several key areas critical to the country's development, including finance, technology, climate empowerment, gender inclusivity, youth engagement, education, and public awareness.

Today's workshop featured technical presentations detailing the methodology used to set the plan's goals and included discussions on the cross-cutting measures essential for successful implementation.

The Maldives' Climate Action Plan is part of the country's commitment under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and aligns with the Paris Agreement, which mandates all member nations to outline their climate goals.
