The state budget allocation for Aasandha, the national healthcare scheme, saw a significant reduction last month, according to the Weekly Fiscal Development report released by the Finance Ministry.

In January, MVR 62.6 million was spent on Aasandha, marking a notable decrease from the MVR 109.8 million spent during the same period last year. This represents a reduction of MVR 47.2 million.

The ministry attributed the decline to the strong cost-control measures implemented by the current administration. One of the primary steps taken was the bulk procurement of 250 popular medications at reduced prices, effectively stabilizing drug costs.

Additionally, changes were introduced to streamline Aasandha services. Patients holding private insurance will now only receive Aasandha coverage after deductions are made from their private insurance plans.

These measures are part of broader government efforts to enhance financial efficiency and ensure better healthcare management for citizens.
