The Maldives Police Service reported that 11 individuals were fined for 14 vape-related cases last month, as the government continues its strict enforcement of the nationwide vape ban imposed on December 15 last year.

During the first month of the ban, 17 people were fined for 20 vape violations. The government aims to curtail the use of vaping products as part of its broader public health initiatives.

Police issue fines by sending notifications to violators' phones and payments are processed through the VaaruPay platform.

Under the revised Tobacco Control Act, vape users face fines of MVR 5,000 per violation, while sellers are penalized up to MVR 10,000 per device sold. Import violations attract penalties of up to MVR 50,000, with additional fines of MVR 10,000 per vaping device or product imported.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing the ban and called on the public to comply with regulations aimed at fostering a vape-free environment.
