Former Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Rishwan has been appointed as the Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), according to an announcement by the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).
Rishwan's appointment follows the removal of former MPL MD Mohammed Wajeeh Ibrahim on Sunday. While the PCB did not disclose the reason for Wajeeh's dismissal, he had only been in office since November 28, 2023.
A seasoned public servant, Rishwan retired from the Maldives Police Service on July 12, 2011, during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed. He later served as the Deputy CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) under President Abdulla Yameen's government.
His appointment as MPL's new MD comes amid ongoing reshuffles in senior government positions.
