President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the Maldives' independence, asserting that he would not allow any disruption to the nation’s freedom.
He made these remarks during the Presidential Statement at the opening session of the 2025 Parliament.
Highlighting the importance of sovereignty, President Muizzu emphasized that protecting the nation's independence has been a sacred duty upheld for thousands of years. He noted that the Maldives' foreign policy would be shaped to preserve its sovereignty while strengthening ties with neighboring and developing nations. Security and development remain top priorities for his administration, the President assured.
Reflecting on efforts made over the past year, President Muizzu highlighted the establishment of the Special Boat Squadron for Coast Guard Special Operations on November 3, 2024, a crucial step to enhance the country's defense capabilities by sea and air.
He emphasized that significant advancements have been made in bolstering the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). Since November 2023, police stations have been established in 27 islands, with plans to extend police services to 39 more islands this year. Efforts are also underway to replace temporary police stations in 20 islands with permanent facilities.
