Parliamentary Group Leader of the People's National Congress (PNC), Ibrahim Falah, has dismissed allegations that the government is planning to alter the Supreme Court bench, calling it "definitely false."

Speaking in response to recent accusations by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Falah, who represents the Inguraidhoo constituency, asserted that the government has no intention of influencing judicial decisions. He emphasized that the judiciary will remain independent and protected from political interference.

Falah firmly rejected claims that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration attempted to remove Supreme Court judges or appoint political figures, including current Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef, to judicial positions.

“The (government) wouldn't do that; it's a lie,” he stated.

Addressing concerns over legal reforms, Falah also noted that the government had not interfered with the Bar Council or sought to remove the Attorney General from the council.

His remarks come after the MDP issued a statement alleging that the government intends to remove three Supreme Court judges and appoint politically aligned figures in their place. The accusations have sparked political debates over judicial independence in the Maldives.
