Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef welcomed the Maldives women’s national basketball team upon their arrival at Velana International Airport after their historic achievement at the 3rd SABA Women’s Basketball Tournament, where they secured the silver medal.

The Vice President was joined by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdullah Rafiu, Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal, and Minister of State for Sports, Fitness and Recreation Mohamed Riyaz in welcoming the players back to the Maldives.

The Maldivian team competed in the final against India in New Delhi, India, on March 26, where India clinched the gold with a dominant 107-32 victory. Despite the loss, the silver medal marks a significant milestone for the Maldivian team, as it is the first silver medal in the team’s history, following their previous bronze medal wins in 2016 and 2022.
