The Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has decided to offer a 10 percent discount on water bills for domestic customers during the month of Ramadan.
This follows an earlier announcement from the President's office regarding discounts on both water and electricity bills throughout Ramadan.
In a press release issued today, MWSC outlined the details of the discount. The company explained that for the month of Ramadan, the water bill will be calculated based on the average "normal month" bill amount from the remaining nine months of the previous year, excluding February, March, and April of 2024. If the bill issued at the end of Ramadan exceeds this "normal month" amount, the higher amount will be deducted as a discount. Additionally, if the discount is less than 10 percent of the total bill, the discount will be adjusted to 10 percent.
The discount will also apply to newly billed meters during Ramadan, as well as to customers who have registered but have not yet received their bill.
