Areesh has been elected as the new Deputy Mayor of the Male' city council after securing a majority of 16 votes at a council meeting held this morning.
With no other candidates expressing interest in the position, Areesh was appointed through a show-of-hands vote.
The Deputy Mayor’s post became vacant following the resignation of Ahmed Nareesh on Wednesday.
