The government has distributed fish cans worth MVR 79 million as part of this year’s Ramadan gift initiative, the Finance Ministry announced on Tuesday.

A total of 108,801 cases of canned fish were distributed across the country. The initiative, spearheaded by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, aimed to support households during the holy month.

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), a state-owned entity, provided a discount of MVR 30 per case. As a result, the government procured the fish cans at a cost of MVR 730 per case.

This annual distribution is part of the government’s broader efforts to ease the financial burden on citizens and ensure food security during Ramadan.
