President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to preventive healthcare, emphasizing the importance of fostering a healthier lifestyle for Maldivians.
Speaking in the second edition of the Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast, he outlined key initiatives aimed at improving public health and well-being.
A central focus of the President’s plan is discouraging smoking among younger generations and promoting healthier dietary habits, including access to fresh fruits and vegetables. He also underscored the importance of swimming for overall fitness, announcing that projects are underway to develop swimming facilities in islands lacking such amenities.
To further encourage physical activity, the President revealed that outdoor gyms and children's parks will be developed on all inhabited islands by the end of next year. He also announced plans to enhance Sultan Park in Malé with adventurous features to support active lifestyles.
Addressing concerns raised by senior citizens regarding land reclamation projects impacting natural beaches, President Muizzu assured that future development projects would include dedicated beach areas for public use. He emphasized that his Administration is committed to balancing urban development with environmental preservation.
The President also highlighted efforts to expand Dhamanaveshi healthcare services to every atoll, ensuring more accessible healthcare across the nation. He stressed that strengthening local healthcare facilities would reduce the need for Maldivians to seek medical treatment abroad.
As part of his governance approach, President Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to public engagement through initiatives such as the Rayyithunge Adu portal and the Ahaa Forum. He continues to conduct direct visits to islands nationwide to listen to the people’s concerns and shape policies that reflect their needs.
