Food aid worth MVR 500,000 from the Maldives has reached families in Gaza, where a deepening humanitarian crisis continues under Israel’s ongoing blockade and military offensive.
Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said the aid was funded through Fitr Zakat contributions from the Maldivian public during Ramadan. “The food items have reached hungry families in Gaza,” the Minister confirmed, adding that this is a reflection of the Maldivian people’s unwavering solidarity with Palestine.
The government has not disclosed the route or method used to deliver the aid, amid tight restrictions on humanitarian access. Since resuming attacks on Gaza, Israel has blocked the entry of food and other essentials and has cut off electricity across the territory.
More than 1,000 people — the majority of them women and children — have been killed in the renewed offensive, according to international reports. Aid agencies warn of a worsening crisis as food, water, and medical supplies become increasingly scarce.
The Maldives’ donation comes as part of global calls for urgent humanitarian intervention and an end to the violence in Gaza.
