The Maldives Parliament has passed a bill to ban individuals from entering the country using Israeli passports, amid growing condemnation of Israel’s actions in Palestine.

The bill, initially proposed by South Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, received unanimous support with 83 votes in favor and none against. Several MDP members also backed the legislation.

While Meekail’s original proposal sought to ban both Israeli and dual passport holders, the Committee on National Security Services amended the bill to prohibit entry only on Israeli passports. The ban will remain in effect until Israel halts what the bill describes as “inhuman acts” against the Palestinian people.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had earlier urged Parliament to fast-track the ban regardless of political divisions, and his Cabinet had endorsed the measure in June last year.

The bill marks a significant stance by the Maldives in response to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
