The National Integrity Commission (NIC) has launched an investigation into an incident involving a woman who fell onto the rooftop of a house in Malé City last Friday.
The commission stated that the case is under police investigation, but growing public concern and allegations on social media have prompted a separate review to determine whether police actions complied with regulations.
Before police released official details, some members of the public alleged the woman had been pushed. However, police said at a press conference that CCTV footage showed the woman fell without anyone else’s involvement. They also confirmed that both the woman and a man with her at the time tested positive for drugs.
The woman is being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). She was initially placed on a ventilator but has since been removed from it.
