The Ministry of Defence has opened applications for the initial intake of the National Service Programme as of April 30, a flagship youth initiative introduced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The programme is open to Maldivian youth aged 16 to 28. Applicants under the age of 18 must submit a no-objection declaration from their parents along with their application.

A central policy of the current administration, the National Service Programme is aimed at nurturing disciplined, resilient, and well-trained youth. It seeks to revive national spirit and patriotism, strengthen Islamic values, and prepare young people to serve in times of crisis. It also supports recruitment into the security forces.

President Muizzu first announced the programme during the Victory Day 2024 celebrations and reaffirmed the commitment during this year’s Presidential Address.

Participants selected for the programme will receive an allowance from the outset. Application forms are available for download on the Ministry of Defence website.
