The new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives, H.E. Kong Xianhua, officially presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday morning at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

Ambassador Kong was escorted in a traditional “Haiykolhu” cultural procession from Republic Square, accompanied by the MNDF Drum and Trumpet Band.

During the meeting, President Muizzu welcomed the Ambassador and discussed areas of mutual interest. Ambassador Kong reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the Maldives and noted the special significance the Maldives holds for Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Diplomatic ties between the Maldives and China were established on October 14, 1972.
