The Thalassaemia Center established in Orange Hiyaa, Hulhumalé, has been completed and officially handed over to the Ministry of Health.

The new Thalassaemia Center is part of an initiative to move the current Thalassaemia Center from Malé to Hulhumalé in order to improve service quality and accessibility for patients.

The move follows a directive issued by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on March 28 this year. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), which was tasked with completing the work within a month, confirmed today via X that the new Thalassaemia Center has been completed and the facility is now under the Health Ministry’s care.

As part of the transition, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has introduced a dedicated bus route to the new Thalassaemia Center in Orange Hiyaa, ensuring better transportation access for patients and their families.

This relocation is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance care and infrastructure for thalassaemia patients by addressing long-standing issues linked to the previous center in Malé.
