President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the construction of the M. Muli–Naalaafushi Causeway Project, a key infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing inter-island connectivity in Meemu Atoll.
The ceremony, held today in Muli, marked the beginning of work on the 565-metre causeway — a project pledged by the President during his electoral campaign. The project is expected to be completed within 600 days.
The causeway will include road construction, tarring, installation of street lighting, a 112-metre revetment, and a 15-metre groyne. Once finished, it will ease transportation between Muli and Naalaafushi, improve access to centralized services, and promote economic growth through better resource-sharing and community integration.
The project is seen as a major step forward in boosting regional development and improving the quality of life for residents of both islands.
