The Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has clarified that the suspension of its Secretary General Maryam Zeeniya is unrelated to a petition recently submitted to Parliament by its staff.
Zeenya was suspended for three days starting Tuesday over allegations of disregarding decisions made by the commission. However, a Broadcom member told Ras Online, that the suspension had no connection to the petition filed by employees, though they declined to comment further on the matter.
The petition, signed by more than 15 employees, accuses commission members of misconduct, including spying on staff, personal harassment, and the denial of overtime pay. It urges Parliament to investigate the allegations and seek a resolution.
The commission has not officially responded to the contents of the petition.
