The Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has introduced new rules for accrediting journalists working in the broadcasting sector.
According to Broadcom, the regulation aims to enhance the quality of journalism and ensure the delivery of reliable services. Press passes will be issued to editors, reporters, presenters, writers, columnists, as well as photo and video journalists.
To qualify, applicants must hold an MQA Level 3 qualification in journalism or demonstrate at least three years of professional experience in the field. Once the rule comes into effect, accreditation will also depend on familiarity with the Code of Practice for Broadcasting and compliance with rules protecting the rights of children and women.
The new regulation will take effect six months after its publication.
