Adhaalath Party President Sheikh Imran Abdulla has accused President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of attempting to restrict media freedom and push for an extension of the presidential term.
Imran’s remarks follow growing concerns over the Media Regulatory Bill, introduced by Thulhaadhoo MP Abdul Hannan Aboobakuru. Journalists and various organizations have criticized the bill as a threat to press freedom and called for its withdrawal.
In a post on social media, Imran alleged that the bill could be the first step towards extending the presidency, claiming Muizzu had failed to deliver on key pledges, including housing. He described the government’s actions as “deceptive policies” aimed at undermining the public.
Imran urged political parties to take responsibility and said unity among all well-wishers of the nation was essential to safeguard the country’s future.
