As part of the government’s pledge to improve banking access, ATM services have now been launched in all inhabited islands of Meemu Atoll, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s office announced.
Within just two days, seven islands in the atoll received ATM services. Ceremonies to mark the launch were officiated by Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef, who symbolically handed over ATM cards to island councils after making withdrawals from the newly installed machines.
ATM services were launched yesterday in Meemu Dhiggaru, Maduvvaree, and Raiymandhoo. Today, the service was extended to Veyvah, Mulah, Naalaafushi, and Kolhufushi.
With this, Meemu Atoll becomes the fourth atoll—alongside Haa Alif, Noonu, and Dhaalu—where ATM services are now available in every residential island.
The launch ceremonies were also attended by Bank of Maldives CEO Mohamed Shareef, bank officials, and island council members. The initiative is part of the government’s broader goal to expand essential banking services to every corner of the country.
