President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government is actively working to introduce environmentally friendly cycling across all cities of the Maldives.

In a message shared on the occasion of World Bicycle Day, President Muizzu emphasized the importance of bicycles as a sustainable, low-cost alternative to traditional modes of transport. He noted that bicycles not only benefit the environment but also help reduce congestion in urban areas.

“As cities become increasingly congested, it’s time to rethink our transportation systems,” the President said. “The government is developing ways to introduce environmentally friendly biking in all cities of the Maldives.”

While the President did not disclose further details of the initiative, he reaffirmed his commitment to promoting cycling as a practical and greener solution for the country’s transport needs.

World Bicycle Day is celebrated annually on June 3 to highlight the benefits of cycling for health, environment, and urban mobility.
