President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic crash of an Air India flight near Ahmedabad, India, which claimed the lives of more than 200 people.

In a message posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, President Dr. Muizzu said the Government and people of the Maldives stand in solidarity with India during this heartbreaking time.



The London-bound Air India flight AI 171, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday, hitting a medical college hostel near the Ahmedabad airport. Authorities confirmed at least 204 bodies have been recovered, with no survivors reported.

Indian media, citing police, said all 242 people on board are feared dead, marking the world’s deadliest aviation disaster in over a decade.

President Muizzu extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of India.
