Iran has appointed Brigadier General Majid Khadami as the new head of intelligence for its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), following the killing of his predecessor in an Israeli airstrike.

The announcement was made by the official IRNA news agency on Thursday. Khadami replaces Mohammad Kazemi, who was killed on Sunday along with two other IRGC officers — Hassan Mohaghegh and Mohsen Bagheri — in an Israeli attack.

The appointment was made by Major General Mohammad Pakpour, the newly installed commander of the IRGC. Pakpour himself had recently taken over the role after Israel killed former commander Hossein Salami in a strike on June 13.

Pakpour praised the work of the late commanders, stating that under Kazemi and Mohaqeq’s leadership, the IRGC’s intelligence operations had seen significant advancement.

The leadership shake-up comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. Israel launched multiple airstrikes last week on what it described as Iranian nuclear and military facilities, killing several top Iranian officials. Iran has denied allegations of pursuing nuclear weapons and retaliated on Thursday by striking an Israeli hospital.

Following his appointment, Pakpour vowed a fierce response, warning that Iran could “open the gates of hell” in retaliation. Meanwhile, senior Israeli officials have made direct threats against Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, further heightening regional tensions.
