US President Donald Trump claimed on Monday that Israel and Iran have agreed to a “complete and total” ceasefire to end the 12-day war between the two nations, though no confirmation has yet come from Tehran or Tel Aviv.
The announcement came shortly after Iran launched a missile attack on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar — a retaliatory move against recent American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
In a triumphant post on social media, Trump wrote, “This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
He praised both countries for their “Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence” in reaching what he dubbed an end to “THE 12 DAY WAR.”
However, explosions were still heard in Tehran shortly after Trump’s statement, according to Al Jazeera’s correspondent, suggesting Israeli strikes were ongoing. Iran has also not publicly acknowledged any ceasefire.
Middle East analyst Omar Rahman warned that Trump’s claim lacked detail and may be premature. “We’ve seen Trump make bold announcements before, only for the facts to contradict them hours later,” he said.
Tensions escalated earlier this month when Israel launched a large-scale preemptive attack on Iranian military infrastructure, killing several high-ranking Iranian officials. Iran responded with mass missile strikes across Israel.
Despite Trump’s declaration, many analysts caution that without formal confirmation or follow-up negotiations, the risk of renewed violence remains high.
